SBSO ARRESTS MAN WANTED FOR MURDER IN MISSOURI

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man wanted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol for second degree murder, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Shane Ellzey, 42, of 1800 block of East 339th Road in Bolivar, Missouri, was booked June 6 on a fugitive warrant for second degree murder out of Missouri, along with illegal possession of stolen things and two bench warrants out of St. Bernard Parish.

Shortly after midnight on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, Sheriff Pohlmann said, deputies received information from the Missouri State Highway Patrol that Ellzey, a suspect wanted for second degree murder in Polk County, Missouri, was believed to be armed and dangerous and headed to St. Bernard Parish in a white 2001 Ford F-150 pick up truck which was stolen from the victim.

Around 7 p.m., Sheriff Pohlmann said, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Bureau located the Ford F-150 entering St. Bernard Parish via St. Claude Avenue in Arabi.

A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle in the 6500 block of St. Claude Avenue, and Ellzey was taken into custody without incident, the Sheriff said.

A criminal history check was conducted on Ellzey which revealed he also had two bench warrants out of St. Bernard Parish, one for business burglary and another for a traffic violation.

Ellzey was transported to St. Bernard Parish Prison to be booked on the above charges.

He is being held on a $50,000 bond for the stolen property and bench warrants, and has a detainer from Missouri and is awaiting extradition.
