SBSO ARRESTS MAN WANTED FOR FATALLY SHOOTING TEENAGER

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrested a man today (Feb. 16) who was wanted for fatally shooting a teenager last week in Chalmette, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Kelan Sartin, 18, of the 3800 block of Laplace Street in Chalmette, was booked with second degree murder, as well as possession with intent to distribute marijuana and illegal possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

On Thursday, Feb. 9, at approximately 7:30 p.m., deputies responded to a call for service in reference to a shooting in the 3600 block of Golden Drive in Chalmette.

When deputies arrived on the scene they found a male victim lying on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim, later identified as a 14-year-old male juvenile, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

During the course of the investigation, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Bureau determined Sartin to be the shooter in the incident and a warrant for his arrest was issued.
