SBSO ARRESTS MAN WANTED BY NOPD FOR ARMED ROBBERY

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrested a man wanted by the New Orleans Police Department for his involvement in an armed robbery that took place in Orleans Parish, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Markall Swearington, 21, of the 7500 block of Briarheath Drive in New Orleans, was booked recently with armed robbery and use of a firearm in a robbery.

According to NOPD, Swearington was identified as a perpetrator in an armed robbery that occurred in late July, 2022 in the 5200 block of North Claiborne Avenue in New Orleans. Swearington was wanted for robbing at gunpoint a female victim he had met to purchase an item she was selling.

After obtaining information from NOPD that Swearington may be in St. Bernard Parish, agents with the Special Investigations Division opened an investigation.

During the course of their investigation, agents located Swearington at a residence in the 2800 block of Acorn Drive in Violet.

A criminal history check was performed on Swearington which confirmed his identity and revealed the outstanding NOPD warrant for the charges listed above.

Swearington was taken into custody without incident and transported to St. Bernard Parish Prison to be booked.

Sheriff Pohlmann reminds St. Bernard residents to be smart when meeting strangers about items advertised for sale online.

“If you’re selling, buying or swapping items through online marketplaces, you need to use extreme caution,” the Sheriff said. “Always meet in a public place where there is a high volume of pedestrian or vehicle traffic.”
