SBSO ARRESTS MAN ON NARCOTICS, WEAPONS CHARGES
The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrested a man on weapons and narcotics charges following an investigation by the Special Investigations Division Narcotics Unit, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.
Kennelius Brown, 34, of the 3400 block of Rose Avenue in Chalmette, was booked with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, Possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, possession of Hydrocodone, illegal possession of a weapon while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, violation of a protective order, drug paraphernalia, suspended driver’s license, failure to use a turn signal, failure to come to stop at a stop sign, and on a fugitive warrant out of Orleans Parish for distribution of fentanyl.
On Wednesday, Dec. 14, shortly before 11 a.m., Sheriff Pohlmann said, Special Investigations Division Narcotics Unit agents who were in the Chalmette area conducted a traffic stop for failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to use a turn signal on a vehicle traveling near the intersection of West Genie Street and Rose Avenue.
During the traffic stop, agents identified the driver as Brown, a suspect who fled from them two days prior during another traffic stop.
A criminal background check conducted on Brown also revealed he has a suspended driver’s license, active protective orders against him and is a fugitive wanted by an outside agency. It also was learned Brown has prior convictions for manslaughter and illegal carrying of a weapon.
During the course of the investigation, agents were able to obtain a search warrant for Brown’s residence where they recovered 5 grams of cocaine and fentanyl with an estimated street value of $500, 138.2 grams of heroin and fentanyl with an estimated street value of $13,820, Hydrocodone, two digital scales and several clear plastic bags with cut corners.
Agents also seized a 9.mm AR style handgun with an extended magazine, $3,200 in cash and several pieces of jewelry including a Rolex watch, gold pendants, bracelets and necklaces.
Based on the above findings, Brown was transported to St. Bernard Parish Prison to be booked on the above charges.
