SBSO ARRESTS MAN ON NARCOTICS, WEAPONS CHARGES

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrested a man on various charges including narcotics and weapons violations following a traffic stop, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Norman Pearley, 31, of the 3300 block of Golden Drive in Chalmette, was booked with improper display of temporary license plate, no driver’s license, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute MDMA Ecstasy and fentanyl, possession of cocaine and fentanyl, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of domestic abuse battery, possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, sale, distribution or possession of a Legend drug without a prescription or order, contraband defined, taking to and from penal institutions and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Wednesday, April 11, shortly before 10 p.m., Sheriff Pohlmann said, Field Operations Bureau Patrol Division deputies who were in the Chalmette area conducted a traffic stop near Paris Road and West Prosper Street on a white Kia Forte with an unreadable temporary license plate.

During the traffic stop, deputies detected a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the interior of the vehicle.

Following a search of the Pearley’s vehicle, deputies recovered MDMA Ecstasy and fentanyl with an estimated street value of $12,000, Promethazine Hydrochloride with an estimated street value of $6,000, marijuana with an estimated street value of $1,950, cocaine and fentanyl with an estimated street value of $340, a digital scale and clear plastic packaging bags.

They also recovered a Smith and Wesson .9mm firearm.

A criminal background check was conducted on Pearley which revealed he is a convicted felon with previous convictions for false imprisonment while armed with a dangerous weapon, aggravated battery and domestic abuse battery. It was also learned he did not have a valid driver’s license.

Based on the above findings, Pearley was transported to St. Bernard Parish Prison to be booked on the above charges.
