SBSO ARRESTS MAN ON NARCOTICS CHARGES FOLLOWING SHOPLIFTING INCIDENT

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrested a St. Bernard man July 20 on various narcotics charges following an incident in which he was caught shoplifting at a St. Bernard business, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Kenneth Warden, 41, of the 1800 block of Heights Drive in St. Bernard community, was booked with possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute Clonazepam, resisting an officer, simple criminal damage to property and theft.

On Thursday, July 20, shortly before 10 a.m., Sheriff Pohlmann said, Field Operations Bureau Patrol Division deputies responded to a call for service in reference to a subject seen shoplifting spray paint from a business in the 900 block of Bayou Road in St. Bernard community.

When deputies arrived on the scene they came into contact with the suspect, later identified as Warden. He became uncooperative and attempted to flee, but after a brief struggle he was apprehended by deputies and taken into custody.

Warden attempted to dispose of several clear plastic bags during the incident but they were recovered by deputies.

During the course of the investigation, Special Investigations Division Narcotics agents determined the items Warden attempted to dispose of included:

➡️24 clear plastic bags containing a combined weight of 12 grams of a black tar-like substance confirmed to be heroin with an estimated street value of $1,200

➡️2 clear plastic bags containing a combined weight of 3 grams of cocaine and fentanyl with an estimated street value of $300

➡️1 clear plastic bag containing 1 gram of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $100

➡️3 clear plastic bags contain 14 tablets of Clonazepam

Warden was transported to St. Bernard Parish Prison to be booked on the above charges.

Sheriff Pohlmann reminds residents to call the Sheriff’s Office narcotics hotline at (504) 271-DOPE or 3673 to report suspected illegal drug activity in St. Bernard Parish. Callers can remain anonymous, and all calls will be acted upon.
