SBSO ARRESTS MAN ON NARCOTICS CHARGES
The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrested a man on narcotics charges following an investigation conducted by the Special Investigations Division Narcotics Unit, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.
Kawanas Hammond, 45, of the 8500 block of Regiment Drive in Chalmette, was booked with possession with intent to distribute heroin and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.
After obtaining information that Hammond was involved in illegal drug activity in St. Bernard, Narcotics Unit agents opened an investigation.
Based on their findings, agents obtained a search warrant for Hammond’s residence.
During the course of the investigation agents recovered several plastic bags containing a combined weight of approximately 15 grams of heroin and fentanyl with an estimated street value of $1,500. They also recovered $1,223 in cash.
A criminal history check was conducted on Hammond which revealed he is a convicted felon with four prior convictions for narcotics related charges.
Hammond was transported to St. Bernard Parish Prison to be booked on the above charges.
His bond has been set at $150,000.
