SBSO ARRESTS MAN ON MULTIPLE CHARGES, INCLUDING ATTEMPTED ARMED ROBBERY
The St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating an attempted armed robbery that occurred during the early morning hours of Friday, May 8, in Chalmette, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.
Arthur Woods, 31, of the 10000 block of Yardly Road in New Orleans, was booked with attempted armed robbery, simple criminal damage to property, attempted unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling, and possession of marijuana.
Shortly after 5 a.m. Friday, deputies responded to a call for service in the 700 block of West Josephine Street regarding an attempted armed robbery.
When deputies arrived, they spoke with a woman who said she had gone outside her home to check on her dog when an adult male approached her and demanded money. During a brief struggle, the woman activated her vehicle’s alarm, causing the suspect to flee the area.
The woman was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
A short time later, deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in the 700 block of North Robertson Street in Chalmette involving someone attempting to break into a residence.
When deputies arrived, they spoke with the resident who said Woods had broken a window and damaged blinds while trying to enter his home. Woods was still on scene when deputies arrived.
Deputies with the Field Operations Bureau Patrol Division recognized Woods as matching the description of the suspect involved in the earlier attempted armed robbery on West Josephine Street and contacted detectives with the Criminal Investigations Bureau.
During the investigation, detectives learned Woods and the resident on North Robertson had been involved in a domestic dispute earlier in the evening.
Following that dispute, detectives said, Woods crashed a vehicle and abandoned it in a nearby ditch. Investigators also determined Woods encountered the female victim on West Josephine Street as he was walking back toward the North Robertson residence, where he attempted to force his way inside.
Woods was taken into custody without incident and booked into the St. Bernard Parish Correctional Facility on the above charges.
