SBSO ARRESTS MAN FOLLOWING DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE
The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Wednesday, Sept. 10 following a domestic disturbance in Chalmette, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.
Marqin Lewis, 36, of the 3600 block of Delambert Street in Chalmette, was booked with two counts of domestic abuse battery-child endangerment, aggravated flight from an officer, possession of firearm or carrying concealed weapon by a person convicted of certain felonies, improper supervision of a minor by parent or legal custodian, and on a fugitive warrant.
Sheriff Pohlmann said the incident stemmed from an altercation that occurred during the overnight hours of Tuesday, Sept. 9. Following the disturbance, deputies obtained a warrant for Lewis’ arrest.
On Wednesday afternoon, while deputies were searching for Lewis, they made contact with him in the Chalmette area. Lewis fled from deputies in a vehicle, and barricaded himself inside his home with his 4-year-old child.
The Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team responded to the scene, and after a short standoff, Lewis surrendered to deputies without incident.
Sheriff Pohlmann said thankfully the child was removed safely from the home and no one was injured during the incident.
A criminal history background check was conducted on Lewis which revealed he has a lengthy criminal record with prior convictions.
