SBSO ARRESTS FORMER STUDENT FOLLOWING INCIDENT ON SCHOOL CAMPUS

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrested a 17-year-old male juvenile following an incident that occurred Monday after dismissal on a school campus in Chalmette, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

On Monday, Sept. 12, shortly after 3 p.m., Sheriff Pohlmann said, deputies responded to a call in reference to an altercation in the Chalmette High School main campus parking lot at 1100 E. Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette.

When deputies arrived on the scene they learned a male juvenile suspect became involved in an altercation with a group of CHS students following dismissal in the school parking lot and he brandished a weapon during the incident.

During the course of the investigation, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Bureau were able to identify the male suspect as a 17-year-old former CHS student.

The juvenile was later arrested by detectives and booked with juvenile in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm on school grounds.

The Sheriff said the incident happened after school was dismissed and no one was injured. The investigation is ongoing, he said.
