SBSO ARRESTS COUPLE AFTER THEY IMPEDED TRAFFIC DURING AN ALTERCATION
The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrested a couple on various charges after they were found impeding the flow of traffic while engaged in an altercation, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.
Terrell Perkins, 37, of the 5600 block of Tullis Drive in New Orleans, was booked with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession of Tramadol, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, resisting an officer and obstruction of justice.
Jaranique Goins, 31, of the 2100 block Beachhead Lane in Violet, was booked with impeding the flow of traffic, along with an outstanding traffic bench warrant and an open item warrant for the distribution of heroin and distribution of fentanyl.
On Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2023, shortly before 10:30 a.m., Sheriff Pohlmann said, Special Investigations Division Narcotics Unit agents traveling in the west bound lanes of the 5100 block of East St. Bernard Highway came upon a dark gray Nissan at a complete stop in the middle of the roadway.
Agents observed an adult female driver, later identified as Goins, exit the driver seat, and an adult male, later identified as Perkins, exit the front passenger seat.
After approaching the subjects, agents learned Goins and Perkins were actively involved in a verbal altercation.
After a brief struggle with Perkins, agents recovered on his person the following items:
➡️1 clear plastic bag containing 3 individually packaged clear plastic bags containing 11.5 grams of crack cocaine and fentanyl with an estimated street value of $1,150.
➡️1 clear plastic bag containing 10 individually packaged clear plastic bags containing 4.8 grams of heroin and fentanyl with an estimated street value of $480.
➡️Tramadol
During the course of the investigation, agents also recovered a Smith & Wesson .9mm handgun.
A criminal history check was conducted on both subjects which revealed Perkins is on parole through 2030 for the following charges: attempt possession of a firearm, bank fraud, distribution of fentanyl, distribution of heroin, possession of cocaine, possession of heroin, possession of methamphetamines, possession of heroin and possession of cocaine.
Goins was found to have an outstanding traffic bench warrant out of St. Bernard, along with an open item warrant out of St. Bernard for distribution of heroin and distribution of fentanyl.
Both Perkins and Goins were transported to St. Bernard Parish Prison to be booked accordingly.
Perkins’ bond was set at $450,000, and he is currently being held for violation of parole. Goins’ bond is $131,250.
Sheriff Pohlmann also reminds residents to call the Sheriff’s Office narcotics hotline at (504) 271-DOPE or 3673 to report suspected illegal drug activity in St. Bernard Parish. Callers can remain anonymous, and all calls will be acted upon.
