SBSO ARRESTS CHALMETTE MAN FOR NEGLIGENT HOMICIDE

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office arrested a Chalmette man after he fatally shot an acquaintance during a gathering at his home, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Frankie Morello, 22, of the 400 block of East Solidelle Street in Chalmette, was booked with negligent homicide.

On Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023, shortly after midnight, Sheriff Pohlmann said, deputies with the Field Operations Bureau Patrol Division received a call for service in reference to a shooting at a residence in the 400 block of East Solidelle Street in Chalmette.

When deputies arrived on the scene they found an adult male victim inside the home suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

During the course of the investigation, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Bureau determined the victim was shot while Morello was handling a weapon he assumed was not loaded.

Sheriff Pohlmann said no one else was injured during the incident.

Morello was transported to St. Bernard Parish Prison to be booked on the above charges.

The investigation is ongoing, the Sheriff said.
