SBSO APPREHENDS TWO REMAINING SUSPECTS IN VIOLET HOMICIDE

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office, working in coordination with multiple law enforcement partners, has apprehended the final two suspects wanted in connection with last month’s fatal shooting in Violet, Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Marcus Venible, 23, and Maliek Pickens, 21, were taken into custody today (March 11) in Mississippi on active arrest warrants, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to five.

Venible, of the 3300 block of Jupiter Drive in Chalmette, will be booked with second-degree murder. Pickens, of the 2300 block of Mumphrey Road in Chalmette, will be booked with principal to second-degree murder. Both Venible and Pickens are awaiting an extradition hearing to be returned to St. Bernard Parish.

Previously taken into custody in connection with the case were:

Arthur Coleman, 20, of the 2400 block of Garden Drive in Meraux, who was booked Feb. 16 with principal to second-degree murder; and Tyreese Riley, 23, of Contemporary Court in Violet, and Malajah Lougin, 19, of the 2300 block of Mumphrey Road in Chalmette, who were both booked Feb. 13 with principal to second-degree murder.

On Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026, at approximately 12:40 p.m., deputies with the Field Operations Bureau Patrol Division responded to a report of a shooting in the 2000 block of Colonial Boulevard in Violet. Upon arrival, deputies located a 17-year-old male victim behind a business suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

During the investigation, detectives with SBSO’s Criminal Investigations Bureau and agents with the Special Investigations Division identified the individuals listed above as suspects and obtained arrest warrants.

Through a coordinated effort by CIB and SID, all suspects were taken into custody with assistance from the following agencies: the FBI Violent Crime Task Force; the U.S. Marshals New Orleans Task Force; the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force in Jackson, Mississippi; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Madison County Sheriff’s Office; the Jackson Police Department; the Mississippi Capitol Police; the Capital Police Department Flex Team; and the Clinton Police Department.

Several firearms also were recovered after search warrants were executed in Mississippi.

Sheriff Pohlmann commends his investigators and partner agencies for their persistence throughout the case.

“Everyone involved in this case remained focused from the beginning and worked tirelessly until every suspect was located,” the Sheriff said. “Cases like this show how much of a difference strong teamwork and coordination can make.”
