SBSO ANNOUNCES ROAD CLOSURES IN ARABI DUE TO TORNADO
St. Bernard Sheriff James Pohlmann would like to inform residents of the following road closures associated with the tornado that moved through Arabi today (Dec. 14) around 4 p.m.
The Sheriff said St. Bernard Highway’s eastbound lanes are currently closed from Center Street to Rowley Boulevard and will remain closed throughout the night.
Heavy debris also is currently being removed from the 500 block of Center Street which is not passable at this time.
Aycock Street headed south from St. Claude Avenue to the Mississippi River is currently down to one lane. Motorists traveling in that area and 18-wheelers headed to American Sugar Refining-Domino Sugar are asked to use extreme caution.
The Sheriff asks that residents who do not live in the affected areas stay clear and allow crews to work to secure the area and restore power.
Residents also are urged for their own safety to not move or go around barricades, and please be patient with utility workers and emergency personnel.
Deputies will be making extra patrols throughout the affected areas while power is being restored.
