Suspect Arrested
Multi-Agencies Arrest Suspect for Homicide
New Orleans-
Members of the New Orleans Police Department’s Homicide Section in collaboration with the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Louisiana State Police and Dallas Police Department have arrested 27-year-old Charlton Porter in connection with the shooting death of Geoffrey McEwen. The offense occurred on June 25, 2023, at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Dryades Street.
According to investigators, McEwen was shot multiple times and transported to a local hospital via private conveyance. The victim died at the hospital a short time later.
During a follow up investigation, Charlton Porter was developed as a suspect.
As a result of the diligent work by NOPD Homicide Section, local, state, and federal partners, arrest warrants were issued on July 10, 2023, for Mr. Porter for the Homicide by Shooting in New Orleans and an additional Homicide by Shooting committed in Dallas, Texas just one month earlier.
Today, (July 20, 2023) Louisiana State Police, along with Federal partners, and Saint Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office located and apprehended Mr. Porter. Porter was arrested without incident in Saint Bernard Parish, where he will be held until he is extradited to Orleans Parish and further to Dallas, Texas to face his charges accordingly.
