Averi Treuil named D.A.R.E. essay district winner of the year

Averi Treuil of Violet was recently named the Metro District Drug Abuse Resistance Education Essay Winner of the Year.

Averi was honored in recognition of the first place winning essay she wrote as a fifth grader at Arabi Elementary School in which she talked about taking a stand to living a drug and violence free life and being a role model for future students.

Averi, now a sixth-grader at St. Bernard Middle School, received the award, along with several other prizes, received the award from the Louisiana D.A.R.E. Officers Association 29th Annual Training Conference.

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office D.A.R.E. anti-drug program, taught in St. Bernard Parish schools by program supervisor Lt. Lisa Jackson and Sgt. Darrin Miller, is aimed at discouraging youngsters from using drugs, including tobacco and alcohol, or taking part in violence or bullying of others. #sbso
