ALTERNATING BRIDGE CLOSURES
According to the Port of New Orleans, the Florida Avenue Bridge is still experiencing problems with the bridge control system, and they are continuing to work to resolve the issue while operating the bridge with emergency motors for marine and rail traffic.
However, because the nearby Judge Seeber (Claiborne Avenue) Bridge is experiencing operational issues that require nightly roadway closures of Claiborne Avenue (LA 39) from 11:00 PM until 5:00 AM to allow passage of taller marine vessels, the roadway at the Florida Avenue Bridge will be opened during these hours to maintain an open route across the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal (Industrial Canal) while the St. Claude Avenue Bridge is raised for normal passage of vessels.
Bridge operations at the St. Claude and Florida Avenue Bridges will be coordinated between 11:00 PM and 5:00 AM to keep at least one bridge open to vehicular traffic at all times while allowing passage of marine traffic, and the roadway at the Florida Avenue Bridge will be closed for the remainder of the day.
They said the schedule will continue until further notice, but they hope to resume normal operations at the Florida Avenue Bridge sometime next week.
