SHERIFF POHLMANN STRESSES MENTAL HEALTH WELLNESS AS THE HOLIDAYS APPROACH

With the holiday season upon us – a time that can heighten emotions for those facing emotional and mental health challenges – St. Bernard Parish Sheriff James Pohlmann is urging the community to prioritize wellness and look out for one another.

Sheriff Pohlmann said this time of year often brings increased feelings of loneliness, stress, or despair for some individuals, making awareness and support especially important.

“The holidays can be incredibly tough for many,” the Sheriff said. “Behind every struggle is a real person, and families, friends, and neighbors who care about them. If you or someone you know is hurting, please reach out. Help is available.”

Sheriff Pohlmann encourages anyone experiencing emotional distress, mental health challenges, or substance abuse issues to contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

This free, confidential support is available 24/7. To connect with a trained counselor, call or text 988, or visit 988lifeline.org.

“Talking about mental health isn’t easy, but it’s a conversation that can save lives,” the Sheriff said. “If you’re feeling overwhelmed or just need someone to talk to, know that you’re not alone, and help is available.”
