Oh Boy! Preparations

In preparation for the Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup on Friday, Aug. 15 through Sunday, Aug. 17 and the annual Feast of St. Bernard, including the Blessing of the Fleet, on Aug. 17, trusty inmates from the St. Bernard Parish Prison - under the watch of Deputy Bryan Cadzow - unloaded barricades on Monday, Aug. 11 to be set up across from the Breton Sound Marina at Hopedale where festivities will be held. The redfish cup features a daily tailgate party with local food, music, children's activities, a shrimp-eating contest at noon Saturday and sports-related exhibits as well as the "Splash Dog" contest where dogs compete for the longest water jump. Those events begin at 2 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Two-man teams compete to bring in the heaviest two-fish stringer each day. Weigh-ins will be at 3 p.m. Sunday's calendar is highlighted by the annual Feast of St. Bernard celebration, which includes a 10 a.m. Mass celebrated under a pavilion, followed by the Blessing of the Fleet in Bayou La Loutre at the Marina and the sale of local seafood and other items.
