Civil Division Responsibilities
The Civil Division of the SBSO collects all taxes and fees on behalf of the Sheriff's Office. The division collects and records payments of sales, use, and property taxes and enforces state law for non-payment. The division also handles occupational licenses, civil seizures and repossessions, and tax sales. Fines and fees assessed by the 34th Judicial District Court in St. Bernard Parish are collected by the division, which also acts as the process server for the parish of St. Bernard.
The Civil Division also manages human resources, insurance, and all other administrative duties of the SBSO.
The Civil Division is commanded by Chief Civil Deputy Jo Ann Lane, who has been with the Sheriff’s Office for 45 years.
Payroll Division
The Payroll Division of the Sheriff’s Office is responsible for employment applications as well as all functions of keeping the payroll for the operation of the Sheriff’s Office.
Kelly Davenport, a 15-year employee of the Sheriff’s Office and native of St. Bernard, is payroll manager.
